Ivanka Trump designs purses that charge smartphones
While Donald Trump is busy campaigning to become the next US president, his daughter has released a revolutionary gadget that doubles as a functional fashion accessory. Ivanka Trump created a line of handbags that can keep mobile phone batteries charged.
As the 34-year-old businesswoman surmised, a handbag that can doubly function as an electronics device charge would be a time-consuming wonder for women on the go. She launched her first wearable tech in December with the Rio Tech Sleeve, which is currently sold out on Zappos.com. She then followed it up with the Soho Tote and the Turner Shopper.
“Wearable tech makes so much sense for our customer – she’s got a full life and plays many roles. [The products] are multitaskers, much like the modern woman who works,” Ivanka told Mashable.
According to the Turner Shopper’s description on the shopping site, the bag, which costs US$225 (AU$320), includes a battery pack with 2200mAh for smartphone battery charging. It includes micro USB to USB charging cable and is compatible with Android, Blackberry, iPhone and iPad devices.
As she boasted to Mashable, the tote is not only for office use, but also for the weekends. “On Saturday, I’ll use it for errands or play dates, styled with a pair of ponté pants and lace-up flats,” she said. “It’s also great as a gym bag – no more worrying about your phone dying while you are still on the treadmill!”
Ivanka is not the first to design a bag that also functions as a phone-charging device. Kate Spade’s Everpurse, which launched in September 2015, is a line of totes and purses that have built-in charging docks inside for iPhones. The line also comes with a charging pad that recharges the bags.
For those who have smartphones other than iPhones, the Mighty Purse, sold on Amazon, might help. The line has a hidden rechargeable battery and works with all micro-USB smartphone devices. Apple products would need an adapter, which can be bought separately.
