While TV veteran Jack Klugman will be given tribute in the Emmys' "In Memoriam" reel, his son Adam Klugman is still very upset. Klugman's father has been ommitted from an Emmy Awards tribute and said that this is an insult to the memory of the three-time Emmy winner and "The Odd Couple and Quincy" star who died on Dec. 24, 2012.

Adam has criticized the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for giving new actor the honour of a special tribute Cory Monteith from the show "Glee" who died of a drug overdose in July.

"I think it's criminal. My dad was at the inception of television and helped build it in the early days."

"It's an insult and it really seems typical of this youth-centric culture that has an extremely short attention span and panders to only a very narrow demographic of young adults," said Adam Klugman.

The five special tributes presented at the Emmys were: Cory Monteith, James Gandolfini, Gary David Goldberg, Jean Stapleton, and Jonathan Winters.

Adam Klugman pointed out particularly to the inclusion of Monteith over his father:

"What about the people who should be introduced to somebody like my father? I don't mean to say anything disparaging about Cory, but he was a kid who had won no Emmys and it was a self-induced tragedy."

In response to Klugman's critical remarks, Emmys executive producer Ken Ehrlich defended the selections for the personal tributes and said the controversy may be another example of the generation gap.

"No matter what we do, there will be people who feel we had other options and could have done other things. In all candor, this becomes a producer's option. And in this case, we selected these five knowing certainly others could be treated this way, but these were the five we chose," said Ehrlich.

"Every generation of television viewers has its favorites, and when we decided to expand the 'In Memoriam' segment to remember certain individuals, we wanted these pieces to be representative as well. To a younger generation, Cory Monteith's portrayal of Finn Hudson was highly admired, and the producers felt that he should be included along with the four other individuals we have singled out."

"Let's call this what it is. They're doing this because they think they're gonna get a younger generation of viewers to watch." Ehrlich told the www.latimes.com in a statement.

Did Jack Klugman deserve the special tribute or are producers right to honour Cory Monteith? What are your views about this? Let us know in the comments.
