James Gunn Says James Bond 'Never Learns Anything,' Assures ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’ Won't Be Like The Bond Series
James Gunn recently shared his thoughts about the James Bond movie series in comparison to "Guardians of the Galaxy." The movie director said during an interview that the MI6 agent "never learns anything" in all the series.
In light of his upcoming production for "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," James Gunn sat down with Comic Book Resources to share his plans of having the characters "go forward" in the sequel. The movie director claims his beloved "GOTG" stars e.g. Star Lord, Groot, will evolve and not remain static compared to other movie characters. Gunn was even specific with the comparison of his franchise to the James Bond series.
"James Bond is a James Bond movie over and over and over again," he tells CBR.
However, as to not mistake his comments as criticisms against the movie, Gunn admits he loves the James Bond movies and finds them "really fun." But he then continues to compare the franchise with "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" in terms of the characters' story. He claims the MI6 agent "never learns anything, and the character never does anything new."
To prove his point with his sequel, Gunn claims understanding the characters in a movie calls for a new development to their story. Thus, he assures that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will have the characters evolve since they will "continuously change" either for the better or for the worse. The sequel will reportedly show a different story development about the characters' "lives and who they are and where they're going."
As for the new James Bond movie the International Business Times speculates there could be a twist to the story as well much like "Guardians of the Galaxy 2." It's believed Judi Dench's M will make a comeback after surviving the fire in "Skyfall." The official James Bond 007 Facebook page recently shared "Spectre's" first production photo. In it is the presence of the character's porcelain French Bulldog, which supposedly hints of Dench's M looming over "Spectre." Regardless if Ralph Fiennes has been cast as James Bond's new boss, it's still reportedly possible for the synopsis' mention of M to refer to Judi Dench's character instead.
