James LeBron Places His Sweaty Arm On Duchess Kate Middleton's Shoulders, Breaches Protocol [SEE PHOTO]
It is common for most people to hug each other affectionately while meeting but for British royals, the simple gesture can be considered a breach of security protocol. James LeBron is professional American basketball player with the Cleveland Cavaliers and posed for pictures with the royal after his match. James faces backlash from British media after he gently placed his arm on Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton's shoulders while posing for the photographs on Tuesday.
King James, as he is fondly called by the media, was still wearing his Cavaliers shirt drenched in sweat when he posed for the photographs with Prince William and Kate Middleton. James presented the royal couple with two Cavaliers jersies. One was for their baby, Prince George and it has his name "George" written on it. The other one had "Cambridge" written on it and was meant for the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
According to various websites, Kate Middleton did not seem quite comfortable with James' gesture of keeping an arm around her and "looked awkward." "James made the apparently crucial mistake of placing his arm around the Duchess when they posed for photos," The Independent writes adding, "thus breaking royal protocol, which prohibits anyone from touching or kissing members of the royal family."
According to British newspaper Daily Mail, James "breached protocol" when he put his arm around Kate Middleton's shoulder. However, Kate did not show any discomfort and appeared to smile all the time for the pictures. James also broke the ice with the royals by asking Prince William about his shoe size. William jokingly said that he wears half the size of James' shoes and the Duchess could not stop laughing at this, reveals the website.
Meanwhile, James did not seem to think he violated any rules by putting his arm around Kate's shoulders and shared his pictures proudly on his Instagram profile. "Wow what an Honor! This game has brought me so much and I'll never take it for granted! The King, "Duke & Duchess. #Royalty #StriveForGreatness #RWTW #LRMR #Klutch," he captioned the picture, which can be seen here.
However, it is not the first time a security protocol has been broken when the British royals visited America. Michelle Obama too caused furore in 2009 by putting her arm around Queen Elizabeth.
