Jamie Lynn Spears has paid tribute to her older sister during a performance. The 22-year-old singer/actress, who is hoping for successful comeback as a country music star, belted out Britney Spears’ “Oops I Did It Again” mid-song, delighting the audience with her impromptu musical shout-out to her more famous sibling.

Jamie Lynn was at the Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia on December 5 to give audience samples from her upcoming new album.

She was singing her song “Ms Mississippi,” which is expected to be her second single following “How Could I Want More,” when she surprised the audience by singing Britney’s 2000 hit song.

“Oops I Did It Again” was released when Jamie Lynn was barely 9 years old. It became one of Britney’s signature songs, and one of her most critically and commercially successful releases to date.

The audience appeared to be already impressed with the younger Spears’ performance, but they went wild when the first note of Britney’s song was dropped. Jamie Lynn also looked like she was having fun with her sister’s hit song, gesturing a beating heart with a hand signal, similar to Britney’s own dance move.

She returned to her singing her song after a few lines, but she wasn’t through with honouring Britney. After her performance, she acknowledged her sister’s role in her career.

“My sister has been a big influence in my life, so of course, I gotta give it back to her. So a big round of applause for my sister,” Jamie Lynn told the crowd.

She has also joined her sister in Britney’s song, “Chillin’ With You,” which is featured on the new album “Britney Jeans.”

Jamie Lynn, who got pregnant at the age of 16, had to temporarily abandon her career to take care of her daughter Maddie Briann Aldridge. Six years after announcing her pregnancy, she is now ready for a comeback, releasing her first single “How Could I Want More” in November.

The song generally received a favourable reaction from critics, who praised Jamie Lynn for displaying maturity in the song. Her performance was also called sweet yet powerful.

A release date for Jamie Lynn’s upcoming country music album is yet to be announced.
