Japanese Researchers Building 13-Foot Tall Robot
Fans of the popular Japanese animated series, Gundam will be happy to note that there will soon be a real life 13 foot tall robot complete with a cockpit.
The Hajime Research Institute in Osaka is working on a humanoid robot that will stand 13 feet tall which would make it the tallest humanoid robot ever built. Other humanoid robots are well, human sized and there's no really need for a giant robot except for the fact that it will look unbelievable It will also come with a cockpit thus fulfilling many geeks' fantasy of actually driving a giant robot to terrorize other people.
The 13- foot tall robot is the latest attempt at building giant robots by Hajime Sakamoto, president of the institute. He had already build a 7-foot tall robot in 2009 and after building the 13-foot tall version he plans to go bigger with a 26-foot version and even a gigantic 59-foot tall robot. It sounds both crazy and absolutely cool at the same time.
Sakamoto is working with NKK Kyousei and contractors to build the parts. He's also looking for sponsors who will help him finish the project. There's no set date for when the robot will be completed but you can keep track of the project's development on its official Facebook page. Here's to hoping that we'll soon be driving our very own Gundam robot soon.
