Jarryd Hayne News: NFL rookie still positive to play in 49ers' remaining games
Jarryd Hayne is still optimistic about getting back into the San Francisco 49ers’ remaining games in the 2015-2016 NFL regular season.
According to Matt Barrows of Sacramento Bee, Hayne will likely get an offer from the 49ers for a reserve or future contract, locking him onto the team until next season. But the former Eel revealed he has yet to consider the next step in his cloudy NFL future and only focuses on cracking into the 49ers’ active roster with three regular season games remaining.
"No, that's not my concern at the moment," Hayne said. "There's three weeks left and I'm looking forward to getting back into the sun."
The 49ers have not yet confirmed they have any plans of playing Hayne in their last three outings, with San Francisco already doomed to miss the playoffs for the second straight year with a 4-9 record. However, head coach Jim Tomsula and special teams coach Thomas McGaughey do not seem to consider giving Hayne another chance yet.
"You can't throw in 18 years' worth of (football) situations in six months," McGaughey said this week, reports the Sydney Morning Herald. "It takes 21 years to become 21 years old. That's just the reality of it."
But despite the Aussie’s setbacks, Cam Inman, 49ers beat writer for Bay Area News Group, said on Twitter that Hayne has no plans of leaving his NFL dream despite not getting any playing time on the field, insisting that the 27-year-old rookie feels “10x more comfortable” than when his first six games with San Francisco.
Hayne was sacked from the 49ers’ active roster after committing three fumbled punts in his first six games. He came close to coming back into the active squad due to the injuries at the team’s running back position, but continues to get overlooked by the 49ers.
