Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake Release ‘Holy Grail’ Music Video (Watch the VIDEO)
Jay-Z got a new record in his kitty with the premiere of "Holy Grail" music video on Facebook. He is the first music star to feature on Facebook's video player.
The exclusive clip of Jay-Z's new song featuring Justin Timberlake was featured on Facebook before YouTube or any other video platform.
The song, "Holy Grail" has been topping the charts ever since "Magna Carta Holy Grail" came out. The music video is directed by Anthony Mandler, and it has been done quite tastefully. Jay-Z's love for art is clearly reflecting in the music video. According to Slate, he has been referencing high art for years, and he rapped "Picasso Baby" - a song in which he takes names of popular artists and museums and declares, "I'm the modern day Pablo Picasso, baby."
This video is quite artsy in which the ambience is dark and the interiors of a huge mansion is showcased. Jay-Z is shown watching a Tyson match on TV while Timberlake walks around when his parts come. The transition from rapping to singing is smooth, and it has been nicely depicted in the video. The backdrop has upside-down cars in flames and shadows. What takes the artistic quotient to a new level is depiction of dancers draped in white sheets.
The move to premiere the music video through Facebook has certainly been remarkable for the rapper as he has over 17 million Facebook fans while Timberlake has 25 million fans. If we combine, the reach is huge compared to their Twitter account, where @jtimberlake has 24.9 million and Jay-Z's @S_C_ account has only 2.9 million followers, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.
"What we're doing with Jay Z today is really exciting and we think emblematic of the evolution of music and how musicians can connect with their fans," says Nick Grudin, head of content partnerships of Facebook, reported by Hollywood Reporter.
