Jay-Z Tells Why He Announced Support For Same-Sex Marriage
Jay Z and Beyonce just recently celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary. Today, he makes sure that every couple, straight or gay, are all able to do the same.
On Monday, during the Budweiser music festival in Philadelphia, the music mogul took the stage and voiced out his support for same-sex marriages. Jay-Z tells that the issue is something that has been holding the country back.
"What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That's their business. It is no different than discriminating against blacks. It's discrimination, plain and simple," the rapper told CNN's Poppy Harlow.
The 42-year-old music millionaire and first time father to daughter Blue Ivy is just one of the growing list of celebrities who use their fame as tool to advance social change. The most popular individual who recently came out to support gay marriage is none other than President Barack Obama.
During his interview with Robin Roberts of ABC News, the president announced his support for same-sex marriage. Jay-Z applauded the current US president for taking the stand and believes it was a right decision.
"I think it was the right thing to do. It's really not about votes. It's about people. So whether it cost him votes or not, I think it was the right thing to do as a human being," Jay-Z said.
Other celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Ellen DeGeneres also complimented Obama's new viewpoint on the issue.
"We've never had a President so supportive of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and today I am proud to be an American! I'm so happy that our country is making history and moving forward. No more living in the past!" reality star Kim Kardashian posted on her blog.
"There have been moments in history when someone has had the courage to stand up for what they believe in and that one action changes everything. I hope that this is one of those times. It takes a brave man to take a stand like this especially in an election year. Mr. President, to you, I say, thank you, very, very much," famous talk show host Ellen DeGeneres said.
