JewGlass: The First Google Application for Religious Jews
The world's first Google Glass application for religious Jews has been launched, reports JPost. Developed by RustyBrick, a web development company established in the year 1994. The company is based in New York.
Google Glass is a wearable gadget that looks like spectacles but has multiple uses such as taking a picture and sharing it live, finding directions and many others. The commands are voice activated and is touted to be the gadget of the future.
The RustyBrick Company has been invited by Google Glass to be a part of the Glass Explorer program for their JewGlass idea; the company had sent the idea of integrating Google Glass into the life of a religious Jewish person.
The JewGlass app allows the users to say their daily prayers and children can learn more about their religion. The app sends notifications when it is time to pray and displays the prayer on the screen for the benefit of the user.
When the user is outdoors the app will automatically make suggestions depending on the user's location and time, for example it will display the nearest synagogue at the time of prayer and the nearest Kosher restaurant at meal time.
"It's not a way of bringing people closer to Judaism, but a way to help people who are already observing do it more efficiently," said Barry Schwartz CEO of RustyBrick who believes that the app is going to be a "game changer."
The company, however, is not expected to make a lot of money with the JewGlass app as generally religious apps so far have not been very profitable. The company is able to sustain the project by diverting funds from their more profitable projects which include developing applications for MTV and Harvard.
The company has an impressive portfolio and its client list includes IDB bank, MTV, Publishers Clearing House, RankSmart.com, TokyoPop, Violence Prevention Institute and Xact Communication, just to name a few. The company was recently hired by "Financial Advisers" magazine to migrate their open source Joomla system to their own content management system.
The company is growing in popularity with over 5 million subscribers to its YouTube channel which has over 800 videos.
