The suspect in the abduction and murder of Jill Meagher was rushed to a Melbourne hospital after a reported suicide attempt.

Meagher, a married woman from Brunswick, was filmed by a CCTV camera walking home from Bar Etiquette at around 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 22. She was found dead six days later.

Meagher's friends and family had turned to Facebook to seek help regarding her disappearance. "Help us find Jill Meagher" page was created to seek the civilian's help in locating Meagher.

Australian news website theaustralian.com.au described the Meagher case as "a genuinely random, opportunistic attack.

Investigations and the CCTV footage led police to suspect Adrian Bayley, 41. He was charged with rape and murder.

After police arrested Bayley in Coburg, he was uncooperative to authorities. But after several hours in custody, Coburg had led police to the location of Meagher's remains.

Meagher's body was buried in a shallow grave in Melbourne's northwest. She was later given a formal funeral at Fawkner Memorial Park on October 5.

Prior to Meagher's funeral, an estimated 30,000 people marched along Sydney Rd in protest of the crime committed against her. Melbourne citizens were upset over the crime on a supposedly safe neighborhood.

Meanwhile, an ambulance brought Bayley to St Vincent's Hospital in Fitzroy. In a report by The Age, Bayley is believed to have undergone surgery for his self-inflicted wounds.

No further information was reported because the hospital has a restricted policy on providing information about prisoners.

Did suspect Adrian Ernest Bayley attempt suicide? In the absence of straight confirmation from authorities, what the public knows so far is that the suspect in the Jill Meagher case had self-inflicted wounds.

Bayley's next scheduled court appearance has been set on January 18, 2013.
