Science fiction fans might have their minds blown by the upcoming "Star Trek" sequel: Peter Weller is boldly going where no man has gone before.

Weller, well-known for his role as the title character in the first two "RoboCop" films, is joining the cast of the J.J. Abrams-helmed "Star Trek" sequel.

"Details about Weller's character aren't being revealed quite yet, but Weller has 'Star Trek' experience, having played John Frederick Paxton on two episodes of 'Star Trek: Enterprise' in 2005," shares The Wrap about the "Star Trek" background of Weller.

The former "RoboCop" star played a murderous leader of Terra Prime, a radical group that wishes to expel all non-humans not only from earth but the entire solar system. "Star Trek: Enterprise" ran for four seasons and had 98 episodes, with supposed season 5 prior to cancellation.

This is not the first time that a "Star Trek" alumnus has agreed to star in the reboot. Leonard Nimoy, the original Spock from the 60's TV series, reprised his role alongside Zachary Quinto, who also played a younger version of his character.

"The 3D movie is a sequel to Abrams' 2009 successful 'Star Trek' reboot, which starred Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov. Those actors all are returning, joined by Alice Eve in a new role," according to The Wrap, with minute details about the much-awaited follow up to the 2009 blockbuster reboot.

Total Film writes that fans are speculating and rumors are going around that the villain will be Benicio Del Toro, but what the villain will be remains to be seen. Fans have their bets on Del Toro portraying Khan, but other options are not that farfetched.

Production is set to begin mid-January of 2012, with the distributor, Paramount, confirming that the film will arrive on the big screen by May 17, 2013. Abrams will write, direct and produce for the movie. Co-writing the script are Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof. Bryan Burk, David Ellison, Kurtzman, OrciLindelof and Orci are co-producing as well.
