Recent findings following the death of "Fashion Police" host Joan Rivers claim her biopsy doctor allegedly took a selfie with the unconscious comedian moments before she suffered cardiac arrest.

CNN reports the 81-year-old star's personal ear-nose-throat, ENT, physician conducted a biopsy on her without the comedian's prior consent. Following her scheduled endoscopy administered by gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen, a source claimed the unidentified physician did an examination on Joan Rivers' vocal chords. However, what's more surprising was that the doctor allegedly also took a selfie with the host while she was sedated.

A clinic staff member at Yorkville Endoscopy in Manhattan told detectives that while Joan Rivers was in the procedure room unconscious, the ENT doctor grabbed the opportunity to take a selfie with her.

According to the report, Joan Rivers' personal biopsy doctor was not certified by the clinic when he did the procedure. "Even though you are a licensed physician, you still should have, if you will, the checks and balances to get your approval to practice in that particular place," Dr. Arthur Caplan, a medical ethicist at New York University's Langone Medical Center told CNN.

The ENT doctor is allegedly under police radar after the host suffered cardiac arrest following the unauthorised biopsy. According to CNN, investigators believed the procedure could have damaged Joan Rivers' vocal chords, causing it to swell during the biopsy. The inflammation may have constricted the flow of oxygen to the host's lungs, leading to her cardiac arrest on Aug. 29.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 10, Yorkville Endoscopy denied claims that a vocal chords biopsy was administered on the host, although according to US Weekly, Joan Rivers' name was not mentioned to abide with patient confidentiality rules. Additionally, Dr. Lawrence Cohen reportedly also resigned from his post as medical director following the clinic's denial.

Joan Rivers died due to heart failure on Sept. 4. The host was on coma and life support after she was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital in New York following her cardiac arrest.

The source claimed neither Dr. Lawrence Cohen nor the unknown ENT physician have been accused of malpractice by the investigators looking into Joan Rivers' death. Likewise, CNN adds Yorkville Endoscopy declined to comment on the biopsy and selfie reports.
