"The Voice" Australia coach Joel Madden was determined to put split rumours to rest by talking about how he won Nicole Richie over. The Good Charlotte vocalist recalled how he persuaded the "Fashion Star" mentor to date him.

The 32-year-old rocker, along with his twin and bandmate Benji Madden, sat down with "60 Minutes" in Australia and admitted that he wasn't a popular choice with the ladies.

"I'm not for every woman," he admitted. "I'm not tall, dark, and handsome guy. But I think once you get to know me, like how I got Nicole. When I would first see her around, we were friends but I don't think I'm the obvious choice.

"I was like, 'Just give me a shot! Just give me one date. If I get one foot in the door...' That's how it has always been with girls. I've never been the obvious, but once they give me just one date... That's how it was with my wife. I said, 'Give me one shot.'"

Nicole recently stopped by the U.S. late night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" without her wedding ring on, giving rise to speculations that her marriage is on the rocks.

Celebrity gossip magazine In Touch claims in their new issue that Nicole and Joel physical distance is putting strain on their marriage. Nicole is in Los Angeles, while Joel is in Australia to film the reality talent show.

"They been spending a lot of time apart," a source told the magazine. "She gets really lonely without him around."

The two began dating in 2006, and got married in 2010. They have two children together, daughter Harlow and son Sparrow.

The whole interview with Joel will be shown on "60 Minutes" on Sunday at 8pm after "The Voice" airs. It will also feature Nicole as she reveals how romantic her husband can be, as well as Lionel Richie, Joel's father-in-law.
