After recent reports that Dave Joerger is changing allegiance—from the Memphis Grizzlies to Minnesota Timberwolves—it appears that no deal is in place and that the status quo remains with the head coach staying with the latter as the former has rejected any form of compensation for the transfer.

ESPN’s Marc Stein tweeted about the matter putting on hold the talks that Joerger is going to his hometown and leave the Grizzlies team in this offseason.

ESPN sources say Wolves and Grizz have hit impasse over compensation, prompting Joerger to tell Memphis he's staying

Wolves feel as though they don't want to pay any compensation for a coach they know Grizz don't want to keep. Matter now of who yields — Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) May 25, 2014

There is still a possibility that the deal pushes through but it will bank on the Timberwolves willingness to ship at least a second rounder to Memphis.

Joerger still wants to go to Minnesota. Grizzlies insisting they won't fire him. Who blinks? Do Wolves ultimately surrender second-rounder?

Joerger, who is in his first year as a head coach, led the Grizzlies to a 50-32 regular season record before pushing the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs.

Reports out of Memphis on Saturday stated that the franchise is looking at veteran mentor Jeff Van Gundy to take over as head coach and general manager. With Joerger back in the Grizz camp, that plan could be scrapped for the meantime.

Grizzlies owner Robert Pera fired chief executive officer and general manager Jason Levien and assistant GM Stu Lash on May 20 apparently because of disagreements between the owner and the front office. Matt Lloyd, currently the assistant GM with the Orlando Magic, is the early front-runner for the Memphis job according to RealGM.com.
