John Lennon-homage 'Looking Through Glass Onion' gets four extra shows
Four extra shows have been announced for John Water's critically acclaimed production Looking Through A Glass Onion. The production is a homage to the music, mystery and memory of John Lennon and will be performed for the first time at the Sydney Opera House from 30 November, 2010
Due to high demand, the extra shows will go on sale Monday 15 November, with the season extended to Sunday December 12.
The musical spectacle has special relevance for those who have celebrated John Lennon's music in their lifetime as Lennon would have been 70 years old last October 9th this year and December 8th marks 30 years since he was tragically gunned down outside his New York City apartment.
John Waters and musical collaborator Stewart D'Arrietta with band will remount Glass Onion in a very special and intimate production at the Playhouse of the Sydney Opera House, a stone's throw from where they first performed it at the Tilbury Hotel in 1992.
John Waters is a film, theatre and television actor and musician best known in Australia, where he moved to in 1968 from London.
He played and sang in blues band The Riots before travelling to Australia on a whim at the age of 19. In Sydney, he played the lead role of Claude in the landmark hippie rock-musical Hair. He returned to London, but soon came back to his new home where he branched out into acting and became a well-known part of the resurgent Australian feature film and TV drama scene.
He has been in the industry for over 40 years, and was part of the Australian children's series, Play School, for almost 20 year. He will play John Lennon in the Looking Through A Glass Onion, which he first wrote and performed in 1992, represents a fusion of the two which has been hugely popular on several tours, and has won praises in London's West End.
On television, John's latest venture is playing the role of the philandering Darcy in Channel 10's hit series Offspring.
