John McCarthy Girlfriend Reveals ‘Distressed’ Phone Call of the Player Hours Before his Death
The girlfriend of the late Port Adelaide football star John McCarthy revealed that her boyfriend made a "distressed" phone call to her called her hours before his death.
Dani Smarrelli said that her boyfriend seemed so worried and talked about going back to Australia. For the Las Vegas Police Department, this is still an open case and they are still searching for clues about the cause of death of the young football player.
This could be a lead that will prove that the footballer committed suicide. However, LVPD claimed that the case is far from its conclusion.
Yesterday, family and friends of the athlete reflected on the life of the 22-year-old; all he had done and all he could have. Most of them remembered John for his determination and his infectious personality.
John McCarthy's family is arranging the player's flight back home in Australia to give him a proper wake and burial.
News broke out that AFL player John McCarthy fell 9m to his death from the roof of the Flamingo Hotel and Casino Sunday night.
Investigators are waiting for the full autopsy report, including toxicology tests, before determining the exact cause of death.
Security staff of the Hotel called and reported that a man had fallen from the roof of the hotel and onto the paved driveway. McCarthy was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead few minutes later.
It is still unclear whether the AFL star committed suicide by jumping off the roof or it is a plain accident. Relatives and friends of the athlete declined for comment.
The AFL has confirmed players and fans will observe a minute's silence before both semi-final clashes this weekend.
Collingwood players will also wear black armbands as a mark of respect for their former teammate, who played 18 games with the club over four years. The club is also considering raising a memorial banner in his honor. Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said he was sure that McCarthy would be fondly remembered.
