Johnny Depp reacts to divorce news, denies Amber Heard’s request for alimony
It didn’t take long for Johnny Depp to respond to reports that his wife, Amber Heard, is seeking to end their 15-month marriage.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor hopes that the dissolution of his “short marriage” will be resolved quickly, according to an official statement released by his representative. On Monday, 30-year-old Heard filed for divorce from Depp, 52, due to “irreconcilable differences.”
“Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life,” said Depp’s representative through an official statement, according to E! Online.
Based on the divorce papers posted by TMZ, Heard said that they have already broken up on May 22. Depp asked the judge to deny her request, according to an article by USA Today. He was also reported to request that Heard handle her lawyer’s fees. Heard’s attorney is family-law specialist Samantha Spector, while Depp is being represented by divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has also recently made news because of Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom split.
Depp and Heard met in 2009 whilst shooting for the film "The Rum Diary." They married in February 2015 on Depp’s private island in the Bahamas. The couple has no children together. Rumours swirled last year marital troubles are in their horizon, which the two have vehemently denied. “I try not to react to the horrible misrepresentation of our lives, but it is strange, and hard,” Heard told Marie Claire in December.
In addition to the divorce, Depp is mourning his mother’s death which occurred just days before Heard filed the papers. He’s currently promoting the movie, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” which hits Australian theatres on July 14.
