Jon Jones Will Never Fight Anderson Silva, Spars With Him at UFC Headquarters Instead
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) assembled its roster of superstars in an astounding event called the "UFC: TheTime is Now," Monday at Las Vegas. With superstars like Lyoto Machida, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Daniel Cormier, Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor flanked side by side and aided by an announcement by UFC President Dana White that fighters will be the ones who will decide the pairings next year, the MMA universe became aplomb with possibilities.
Super fights are now in the table and one of those which has gained traction over the years is the Anderson Silva and Jon Jones mega-bout. The said match was the hip thing last year until everything went to shreds when the 39-year-old jiu-jitsu master crumbled both times to now reigning middleweight champion Chris Weidman. When media personnel at the presser brought up the topic of pitting the pound-for-pound king in the mixed martial arts world, Jones shot down the suggestion citing his respect for the Brazilian legend.
"I just look up to him so much. And he's just...I don't have many people that I've looked up to in my lifetime and think, 'wow, how cool would it be to be that guy.' Look at what he's done. Jordan, LeBron, Anderson, Kobe, I consider them all in the same type of class," Jones explained through Bloody Elbow
While the fans may never see Silva and Jones settle the conversation on his the greatest of all time fighter in the mixed martial arts history, Dana White treated UFC fans with a rare peek of a sparring session that lasted two hours between the two fighters which was held at the UFC headquarters. White posted in his Instagram account a black and white photo of Jones wearing a dark top and Silva in white shirt unleashing a right jab with his left hand guarding his face.
The two fighters also had a playful banter with their posts in their own accounts with Silva posting a selfie with the caption calling the light heavyweight "a f***ing crazy guy" and "the best fighter in the world." While the two men will unlikely face each other in the Octagon, they have their hands full with their respective opponents with "The Spider" beginning his comeback from the gruesome leg injury with the upcoming battle with Nick Diaz and "Johnny Bones" hoping to continue his success against contender and undefeated Daniel Cormier.
