Emma Jackson of Australia came close to the title at the World Triathlon Series (WTS) Hamburg while another Australian in Andrew Hewitt came at fourth place as the pair scored the excellent finishes in the Elite Women competition.

Gwen Jorgensen from the United States of America was the most impressive triathlete however clocking in at 00:56:54 for yet another first-place finish in the two-day event held from July 12-13, 2014 in Hamburg, Germany.

The American became the first athlete—man or woman-- to win four straight WTS races in the same season after victories in Yokohama, Japan; London, England; and Chicago, USA.

Jackson clocked in at 00:57:00 just six seconds behind the champion while Hewitt was at 00:57:11.

“It was really hard out there, I didn’t have a great position on the bike and the run was really hard too, those girls really made me work,” Jorgensen told triathlon.org. “They were really coming for me at the end and I was really scared, I was tired, but I just have it everything I had.”

The race consisted of a 1.5-kilometer swim; then the 40-kilometer bike; and finished with the 10-kilometer run.

Jackson came third in the previous WTS race in London and the improvement in placing in Germany is a good sign for the future according to Bernard Savage, the performance director for Aussies.

"Emma was fantastic and timed her run perfectly after pacing herself through the bike," said Savage in the same website. "She should be even better when the time comes to race in Glasgow."

Other Australians who finished the race are Andrea Hewitt (00:57:11); Ashleigh Gentle (00:57:45) in 4th place; Charlotte Mcshane (00:59:05) in 28th place; Gillian Backhouse (59:34) in 33rd place; and Erin Densham (01:02:22) in 51st place.

Meanwhile in the Elite Men race, British brothers Alistair Brownlee (00:51:43) and Jonathan Brownlee (00:51:48) bagged the gold and bronze; while France’s Vincent Luis (00:51:45) flanked them for a silver finish.

Australian finishers in the men's were Aaron Royle (52:27) in 12th place; Dan Wilson (53:08) in 28th; Cameron Good (53:14) in 33rd; Ryan Fisher (53:23) in 38th; Brendan Sexton (53:29) in 41st; Ryan Bailie (53:45) in 47th.
