Jose Aldo: ‘I am the Best In The World’ [VIDEO]
The official Ultimate Fighting Championship ranking lists Jon Jones as the best pound for pound fighter in the world. If you ask runner-up Jose Aldo, he should have been listed on top.
The Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter opined that when lined up against the best of the best, he believes his skills are enough to warrant the top spot, yet he concedes that this only motivates his so much more to improve. The UFC featherweight champion gave his two cents after the UFC revised its power ranking after Andrei Arlovski entered the top ten list after knocking out Bigfoot Silva.
"If you talk about skills, I feel that I'm the best in the world. But it doesn't mean that I think that I'm invincible and I'm still working to keep being a champion. If I'm the number one or I'm not, this is up to the fans and the media, though I have my opinion. The important thing is that I'm still evolving as a fighter and I have a lot to improve," Silva declared per AG Fight.
If it was up to UFC President Dana White, he would also crown Aldo as the crème dela crème. While he has not produced the same convincing wins during the early part of his 17-win streak, White still has high regard for his prized fighter and believes he has to let his fists do much of the talking.
Jones, despite the aloof reception of fans, is still the number 1 pound for pound MMA figure due to his eight consecutive title defence including 11 straight wins in the Octagon. This just fuels the fire of Scarface to improve more and show to the fans and media that he has more to offer than the rest. If Bones has 8 consecutive title defences, Aldo is nearing that mark with his seventh fight in October.
The Brazilian is set to defend his featherweight title against Chad Mendes on Oct. 25 at UFC 179. Hopefully, this is the right time for him to show his grit and finish his opponent in spectacular fashion. After all, he did knockout Mendes during their last fight in 2012. This is the main criticism of the world renowned fighter, that he has just two finishing moves and he lacks the killer instinct. It is time to change that opinion and reclaim what is rightfully his.
