Jose Mourinho Says Cesc Fabregas Has Great Captain Qualities
Jose Mourinho, the manager of Chelsea recently claimed that he already understands why midfielder Cesc Fabregas was named as the team captain of Arsenal despite his young age. The 27-year-old Cesc Fabregas was named as the captain of Arsenal as the successor to William Gallas when he was just 21 years old.
At that time, he was already a key player for the club and one of the best midfielders in Europe but for his age, he's considered young for his role as the team captain. Eventually, the Spaniard left the club to join his boyhood club Barcelona and then, over the summer he joined Premier League side Chelsea on a five-year contract for a fee in the region of €33 million.
Now that Fabregas is with the English Premier League team Chelsea, Mourinho revealed that he already understands why Fabregas was named to be the Arsenal team captain at such a young age. According to Mourinho, Fabregas embodies the personality of a leader but he also said that he is not the team captain at Chelsea because of the different philosophy that they have in the club.
"Now I understand at the age of 19, 20, 21 he was Arsenal captain, now I can understand that," Mourinho said speaking to ITV. "He is not the captain here because here we have a different philosophy of big guys who have had many years at the club but his personality and profile are fantastic."
Mourinho and Fabregas had a tense relationship during their time as rivals at Real Madrid and Barcelona but the Chelsea manager had to put his personal issues behind him and signed the midfielder for £26 million. Now, he even admitted that Fabregas is a better guy than he thought. Fabregas surprised Mourinho not for his performance but for his behaviour.
He also expressed his delight in scoring a top player and top guy at the same in time, in Fabregas. When asked about what is special with the Spaniard, Mourinho revealed that he is willing to work for the team and not himself.
