Joseph Gordon-Levitt is going back to his television roots. The 32-year-old actor has announced that his production company is hitting the small screen. The variety show “HitRECord on TV” has dropped its first trailer on Friday, and will premiere in January.

The new show is based on Gordon-Levitt’s online collaborative project HitRECord, which he started in 2005 with his late brother Dan. HitRECord began as a Web site that allowed them to post videos and get feedbacks, but it progressed into a production company that allows contributing artists from all over the world to be paid for their work.

The company has since released books, short films, and DVDs, with Gordon-Levitt often appearing in these projects.

In March, Gordon-Levitt has announced that they were taking the next step with a TV show, explaining how the show would work.

And on Friday, he launched the trailer for the variety show, calling his latest project “really different.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, here’s a first look at the TV show I’ve been working on all year, HITRECORD ON TV! It’s a half-hour variety show with short films, live performances, music, cartoons, and of course, MORE!” JGL wrote.

“Hundreds of thousands of artists from all over the world contribute to the collaborative projects we have going on our site – hitRECord.org – where I’ve been directing each piece and performing in a bunch of them too. Btw, we’re still finishing the last few episodes, so come contribute something...”

It isn’t clear how many episodes the company has signed with the network, although the actor previously mentioned that they have allotted $50,000 budget in each eight episodes of the show.

The show will premiere on January 18 in the U.S. on the cable channel Pivot.
