Josh Hutcherson's New Film 'Red Dawn' Flunks Big Time
Jennifer Lawrence might have done a bit alright with her post-"Hunger Games" flick, "House at the End of the Street" but Josh Hutcherson's film didn't quite get the same love.
Hutcherson starred in the remake of "Red Dawn" alongside another Hemsworth, Chris. The reviews have poured in and not all of them are golden.
So before the reviews roll in, the plot of Josh Hutcherson and Chris Hemsworth film, "Red Dawn" is as follows:
"Hemsworth (The Avengers) plays Jed Eckert, a soldier home from Iraq who returns to his hometown of Spokane, Washington just as it befalls a strange and unexplained power outage. As his police chief father Tom (Brett Cullen) heads off to handle the problem, Jed attempts to reconnect with his little brother Matt (Josh Peck), who's angry he took off for parts unknown after the death of their mother. But when the outage turns out to be a prelude to a full-scale invasion by North Korea, they flee the city with a handful of Matt's high-school classmates in tow hoping to evade capture."
It's a rag-tag team of man rounds up boys to save girl and save the world which is too cliché for words. The original film was released back in 1984 when the Cold War was just about to end. It had been a hit back then given it had the same relevance to what was happening at then-present times. However, the remake with the "this is our land" ethic and film morale was shabbily made with not much contrast to films Chris and Josh had separately starred in that offered better film taste.
In short, the remake of "Red Dawn" is the equivalent of voting-day robocall best for people who are highly susceptible to apocalyptic paranoia and nail biting. The film is simply too cartoonish to indulge in. Fans of Josh Hutcherson should simply wait for "Catching Fire" if they wish to see the actor back in action. The same thing would go for Chris Hemsworth fans who should best stick to his flicks where he boasts of his mighty hammer and impressive God-like skills.
