Juan Manuel Marquez Says ‘People Will Blame Floyd Mayweather Jr. If The Pacquiao Fight Doesn’t Happen’
The super fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is still making headlines in the boxing rumour mill since the Filipino boxing icon won over Chris Algieri in Macau a couple of weeks ago. Recently, Pacquiao's rival Juan Manuel Marquez has shared his thoughts as news continues to spread about the potential fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao.
In a report by Philippine Star, Marquez reportedly said that the people will blame Mayweather if the Pacquiao fight doesn't take place. He added that Mayweather should take the Pacquiao fight if he wants to be regarded as the best fighter in history. According to Marquez, Mayweather has to beat the fighter in Pacquiao, who was once hailed as the best pound-for-pound figher.
The Mexican fighter said that Mayweather should stop mocking Pacquiao on social media. Marquez said that Mayweather should step up and take the fight, and then the undefeated boxer can say whatever he wants to say, but for now the most important thing is to give the fans the fight that they have been longing to see.
Marquez, who fought Pacquaio for four times from 2004 to 2012 and Mayweather once in 2009, has recently voiced his desire to see the fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao finally happen. He said that the fight would be good for the sporting world of boxing, Spanish news outlet Medio Tiempo reported.
On the topic of who is going to be victorious between Mayweather and Pacquiao if the fight ever happens, Marquez said that the undefeated fighter will be able to defend his perfect record. He said it is not going to be a knockout, but Mayweather's strategic, defensive, timing skills will be able to cause damage to Pacquiao.
Marquez only fought twice since 2013. He lost to Timothy Bradley on Oct. 12, 2014. In May 2014, he had a 12-round unanimous decision win over Mike Alvarado. There have been talks about several fights, but Marquez did not take those fights because he wants to make history and win another title. He wants become the first five-division world champion from Mexico. Marquez is currently a four-division world champion, having won titles in four different weight divisions.
