Julian Assange announced the list of Wikileaks Party's candidate for the coming federal election through a video link from Ecuadorian embassy in London where he was still facing accusations of sexual assault and possible extradition to Sweden.

The Wikileaks Party candidates named were lawyer and human rights activist Kellie Tranter for New South Wales seat along with academic and journalist Dr Alsion Broinowski.

For the Western Australia seat, Wikileaks Party had Gerry Georgatos, Deaths in Custody researcher and Students Without Borders founder.

Also running for WA was disability and advocate Suresh Rajan.

For the seat in Victoria, the Wikileaks Party had commentator and ethicist Leslie Cannold and international law academic Binoy Kamparck.

During the video link conference, Mr Assange was asked the challenging question about how he would attend to his responsibility in the Senate if he remained within the bounds of the Ecuadorean embassy in London.

Mr Assange said that he might have to take his seat until July, "Hopefully, the situation with the United States and the UK has resolved by then, but if not, the senate is able to give a grace period of a couple of months and then another candidate from the Wikileaks Party is able to take my place."

Mr Assange said that the Wikileaks Party vows for transparency in any of its policy, including its PNG boat riding asylum seekers policy, press freedom and climate change.

"Wikileaks Party is a party of accountability; it is not a party of government. It is a party to put into the Senate, to make sure whoever is put into the government does their job. It is an insurance against the election."

Mr Assange was about to go emphatically with his prepared speech.

"Well, it is 3am here in London and the night is black. The embassy is surrounded by police, many of which have gone to sleep. But we shoud not treat Canberra the same way. Canberra needs to be a place of light, and not a place of darkness."

"For the last 30 years, we have seen a gradual decline in the quality of Australian democracy. That is partly due to the physical nature of Canberra. It is isolated from the people it is meant to be representing..."

At this point of his speech, ironically, the video had crashed and the screen went totally black; something quite unexpected from a party of computer hackers.
