Justin Bieber gets Booed At 2014 Juno Awards: Wins Juno Fan Choice Award
How does it feel to get booed in one's own native country? Justin Bieber would know the answer to this, as the 19-year-old pop star got booed at Juno Awards in Winnipeg, Canada. The "Baby" hit maker, however, was not present to hear the boos on Sunday.
When Bieber's name was announced as the winner of Juno Fan Choice Award, there were reportedly some audible boos from the audience at the Winnipeg's MTS Center, according to Hollywoodreporter.com. Justin's award was finally accepted by Canada's Olympic women's curling team.
Singer Serena Ryder apparently did not take Justin Bieber's booing in good spirit. She came to the defence of his fellow Canadian musician when she went on stage to accept her own Juno award for Songwriter of the Year. Ryder praised Bieber's musical talent and told the audience that they need to support the troubled pop star.
"I really think that Justin Bieber is an amazing musician and he deserved every bit of that award because he's been working his ass off his entire life and we need to support how awesome he is," Ryder said, according to the Web site.
Some may object to "how awesome he [Bieber] is." Bieber has cases against him in two different countries -- United States and Canada. The "Believe" singer has been allegedly involved in egging his neighbour's house and is also charged with a DUI in Miami Beach. Bieber is also facing another assault charge, filed by a limo driver in Toronto.
The other big winners of Juno Awards were Tegan and Sara, identical twins who won for Single of the Year award for "Closer," Group of the Year and Pop Album of the Year for "Heartthrob." The Breakthrough Group of the Year award was bagged by A Tribe Called Red, an Ottawa-based band.
The Album of the Year Juno went to indie heroes Arcade Fire for "Reflektor," who also won Alternative Album of the Year. The Breakthrough Artist of the Year award went to Brett Kissel, while Bruno Mars won the International Album of the Year for "Unorthodox Jukebox."
