Justin Bieber has been hanging out a lot with his pal and rumoured new girlfriend Hailey Baldwin. While the pair has yet to comment on the real status of their relationship, a source claimed they were recently caught flirting with each other on social media.

What fans supposedly see as a "mean jab" between Justin and Hailey on Instagram is their way of flirtation. A source told Hollywood Life exclusively that the friends have their unique way of showing how much they actually like each other through criticisms. At one point Justin reportedly called Hailey a "carrot," which, as per the site, refers to someone who capitalises on her beauty, but once that beauty fades then that person is likened to a wet carrot. Hailey, on the other hand, called the singer "fat" on one of his Instagram photos where he's seen showing his toned abs.

"This current back and forth looks mean-spirited, but it's actually their way of flirting with each other when they aren't together. One of the things they do is make fun of each other, but in a loving way," the source said.

The source claimed their mean banters may sound "sappy and silly" but it actually works for both of them in their relationship. However, Justin Bieber also complimented Hailey Baldwin on her good looks and called her "hot" on Instagram. The model shared a photo of herself and a friend on Jan. 12 and captioned it "glad to have my Aussie back." Hollywood Life posted Hailey's photo where it shows the singer telling Hailey "Ur friends Hott hailey haha." But within a few seconds he also said "But ur hot 2" and coupled his last comment with two smiley emojis. According to the Officialbiebernews Instagram account, Justin made three comments on the said photo including the word "carrot."

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin may be flirting but they have yet to clear out dating speculations. Over the past weeks, the two friends have been spotted hanging out together on several occasions. According to a previous report from the International Business Times, rumours of their alleged relationship started following Justin's split from Selena Gomez. Hailey is believed to be Justin's "new muse."
