It’s official, Justin Bieber is retiring, or so he claimed. A week after saying that he has plans to retire after dropping his new album, the 19-year-old Canadian tween heartthrob has made his words official by announcing the news on his Twitter account.

“After the new album, I’m actually returning. I’m retiring,” he told the Los Angeles hip-hop radio station show “Big Boy’s Neighbourhood.”

His album, “Journals,” hit the iTunes on December 23.

His shocking statement frightened his Beliebers (or what his fans call themselves), with several news sites doubting that he actually meant to stop recording music as he is still a very marketable commodity in the industry.

Sources told the New York Daily News that Justin was merely joking when he said that, which wasn’t a farfetched idea since he added in the same interview, “I want to grow as an artist and I’m taking a step out. I want my music to mature.”

But on Christmas, he has made the news official in a single tweet.

My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring

Beliebers don’t need to panic, though, because it appears that Justin’s meaning of retirement doesn’t include staying away from the public eye. He followed his tweet with a couple of others that seem to contradict his announcement.

The media talks a lot about me.They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle. — Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 25, 2013

Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER

So instead of clearing up the retirement issue, he has actually more questions unanswered. What is he retiring from? Is he quitting the entertainment industry completely? Or just the music side of it? Or was that just a promo for his “Believe” movie, which opens in the U.S. on Christmas day? After all, he also tweeted that he has a surprise for everyone this week.

Going to surprise a lot of people this week. #BelieveMovie — Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 25, 2013

Whatever the popstar is cooking up, it’s unlikely going to involve him disappearing completely from the limelight. In the meantime, he has a movie and an album to sell.

“Believe” the movie is set to hit theatres in Australia on January 24.
