Justin Bieber took home five awards at the 2015 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs), on Sunday night. The star-studded event was held at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan.

Bieber, 21, won for best male, best look, best worldwide act: North America, best collaboration for his work with Skrillex and Diplo on “Where Are You Now?” and also the biggest fans prize, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

“It’s been a long couple of years. I just feel like this is pretty awesome to be recognised for my music,” Bieber said in his acceptance speech, adding that he does not take “any of these moments for granted. Not one of them.”

“You guys are unbelievable and that’s where I belong. Right there on that stage,” he added.

In addition to winning five awards, Bieber also performed “What Do You Mean?” at the event.

Meanwhile, Bieber’s competitors One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Taylor Swift, and Shawn Mendes also scored wins at the 2015 MTV EMAs. The winners were decided based on more than half a billion votes received from around the globe.

Swift, who had earned a record-breaking nine nominations, bagged only one award on Sunday night -- she won the best song award for “Bad Blood.” Swift, however, was not present to receive her award, and had not filmed an acceptance speech.

Rihanna and One Direction also won one award each, and like Swift, they didn’t appear on stage to receive their award or give an acceptance speech via video message. One Direction won the prize for Best Pop, while Rihanna was nominated Best Female artiste.

The award show was packed with live performances by artists. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis opened the show with a high-octane performance of their award-winning song “Downtown,” and later in the evening, they grabbed the Best Video award for “Downtown." The closing act was by Pharrell Williams’ potent perf of his hit track “Freedom.”

The 2016 MTV EMAs will be held in Rotterdam.
