Justin Verlander Rejects GF Kate Upton’s Request to Get a Puppy
Detroit Tigers' star pitcher has rejected his girlfriend Kate Upton's request to have a new pet. Verlander declined to give in to Upton's wish to get a puppy not because he doesn't like dogs but because his pet, Riley, doesn't approve of another canine in their household.
On July 29, the Sports Illustrated model has posted a picture of her holding an adorable puppy and tagged Verlander on Instagram. The photo was also shared on Twitter.
"Pleaseeeee @justinverlander," Upton wrote on Twitter.
Verlander quickly replied to his girlfriend appeal and posted a picture of his pet Riley, saying that anyone who wasn't in favour of granting the supermodel's request should raise their hand. Riley is Verlander's 50-pound reddish Heinz 57 mix. In the picture, Riley was seen raising its paw.
"If anyone objects raise your hand," Verlander replied.
According to Richmond Magazine, Verlander and his former girlfriend Emily Yuen adopted Riley back when he was still in college. They reportedly went to Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) centre and he said that the dog kept "licking" their faces. He said that he had been "building a bond" with his pooch, which he thought was the "coolest dog ever."
"He's been around since day one," said Verlander of Riley. "He's experienced everything me."
Having a new pet dog with a new girlfriend can be a beautiful experience in their relationship, but Verlander isn't so keen to get another dog quickly.
Meanwhile, Upton really loves dogs. She has one which she calls Boots, who often travels with her and gets coddled with room service whenever they check-in in hotel, Fab Sugar reported. Upton also likes to bring Boots for a walk whenever her busy schedule permits her to do so.
If Upton desperately wants another canine pet, she would have to do more and think of ways rather than just give Verlander her puppy eyes look.
