Kanye West, Ben Affleck, Serena Williams Are Victims Of Migraines: Ways To Tackle It
Migraines are a painful type of headache that causes a throbbing pain in one side of the head, in addition to a feeling of having a nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.
According to The Huffington Post and Mayo Clinic, 36 million Americans suffer from migraines that are three times more common in women than in men as it can be triggered by hormonal changes, though the exact mechanism has not been found.
The Migraine Research Foundation has said that almost one out of every four households would have one person suffering from migraine with about 10 percent of the American population suffering from it.
Mayo Clinic suggested on its website that as precaution for migraines, one can adopt the following steps:
- Seek a calm environment by switching off the lights, massaging the painful areas and drinking a caffeinated beverage.
- Sleeping well by establishing good sleeping hours, minimizing distractions and unwinding at the end of the day.
- Eating wisely by not skipping meals, avoiding food items that can trigger migraines and being consistent by eating at the same time everyday.
- Managing stress by taking a break, adjusting one's attitude, relaxing, simplifying life and managing time wisely.
- Keeping a diary on when the migraine starts and ends, the symptoms you feel and what you were doing at that time.
Famous personalities like Janet Jackson, Cindy McCain and Troy Aikman have also suffered from this condition that is battling a sharp stigma.
A study in 2010 showed that people who suffer from migraines have reported to feeling more rejected and ridiculed in comparison to those suffering from stroke, Parkinson's or any other neurological condition.
Last Sep. 10, Kanye West was feeling unwell and was rushed to the hospital. The rapper was taken to the emergency ward of Epworth hospital in Melbourne at 2:00 p.m. as he was suffering from a migraine.
Rumors were up that he was suffering from a seizure but a source told E! News that he was fine and did not have a major health scare. The source added that he was taken to the hospital just as a precaution. It was believed that he had to get an MRI done just to be on the safe side.
