Kanye West's album cover banned by Wal-Mart?
Kanye West, who has recently been showing a not-so-child-friendly image, is lucky to still be allowed to return and even perform in MTV VMAs 2010 after he grabbed the microphone from Taylor Swift at the 2009 show. But his album is not as fortunate as its cover faces the possibility of being banned.
The My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album cover features a painting of a naked Sphinx-like, seemingly female human figure without upper limbs straddling a naked blackman with a green bottle, and both are wearing suggestive grins. The cover is called by Kanye West as "chilling on the couch with my phoenix!"
On his Twitter page, Kanye West said that cover was banned in the United States. West said that he found this move as a manifestation how commercialized everything had become.
"In the 70s album covers had actual nudity... It's so funny that people forget that... Everything has been so commercialized now."
It was not known who or what banned the cover of Kanye West' album but his subsequent messages implies that the rapper is refering to Wal-Mart.
"In all honesty ... I really don't be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers" and "I wanna sell albums but not at the expense of my true creativity".
"So Nirvana can have a naked human being on they cover but I can't have a PAINTING of a monster with no arms and a polka dot tail and wings".
Wal-Mart is yet to comment on the matter of banning Kanye West's album cover in its chain.
