On its debut weekend, the "Karate Kid" went straight up to No. 1 at the North American box office, taking out "Shrek" from the top spot, weekend estimates showed Sunday.

The remake of the 1984 film, which now stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith, amazed the moviegoers and earned $56 million in its first three days alone.

At No. 2 is another remake, "The A-Team", which was based on the 1980s TV series. It netted less than half of the Kid's profit, but made a decent $26 million.

"Shrek Forever After" is now in third place, with $15.8 million on its weekend take. So far, the animation earned more than $210 million.

Raunchy comedy "Get Him To The Greek" is at No. 4 with $10 million, and at No. 5, with $8.2 million, is "Killer" starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl.

Completing the top ten are "Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time" with $6.58 million in the sixth spot; "Marmaduke" with $6 million in seventh place; "Sex and the City 2," in eighth place, earning $5.53 million; "Iron Man 2" with $4.55 million; and the mad science and monster flick "Splice" with $2.86 million at No. 10.
