It paints their marriage as a short 10-week affair, but Kim Kardashian is calling it quits.

Just 72 days after the young couple tied the knot in a lavish 10-million dollar wedding, Kardashian filed for divorce from Kris Humphries due to "irreconcilable differences".

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," Kardashian confirms to E! in an official statement. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned."

The thirty-one year old adds that they plan to "remain friends and wish each other the best."

Humphries, 26, is reportedly blindsided by the dissolution of his marriage.

"I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents," he told TMZ in an interview. "I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce ... I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

Despite the "devastation", a pre-nuptial agreement ensures neither party will be leaving the union with an empty pocket. The couple has reportedly netted $18 million from all their media ventures - that's $250,000 for every day that they've been hitched.

Reports of the couple's rocky marriage have been circulating for the past few weeks, but news of the split has sent the entertainment world in a flurry.

Avid fans flocked to Craigslist on Monday night to organize a vigil for their reality idol after news broke of the divorce.

"We'll be gathering in front of the Dash store in Soho today at 4:15 to hold a vigil for the marriage of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humpreys [sic]. It's a sad day," an announcement for the event read.

Dash is the name of the Kardashian sisters' clothing boutique located in New York.

Meanwhile, Twitter is being flooded with quips from funnymen on the starlet's short-lived marriage.
