Kate Beckinsale Reveals Her 'Very High' IQ Score
Kate Beckinsale has opened up about her intelligence on “The Howard Stern Show” on Wednesday. During the show, Beckinsale revealed she was a child when her IQ level was tested and found to be “very high.”
The “Serendipity” star’s revelation came after Stern asked her what her IQ was and brought up that the actress speaks fluent Russian and studied at Oxford. To Stern's question on her IQ level, Beckinsale said, “I’ll have to ask my mum. It was very high.”
She also admitted that it was her mother, Judy Loe, who wanted her IQ tested at a very early age. “I think she had me tested because very bright children are near unbearable,” the actress said laughing.
While on the air, Beckinsale called Loe to ask about her IQ and her mother revealed her score back then was 152. An IQ score of 100 is considered to be average, while a score of 130 or higher is considered high.
The actress, however, admitted why she thinks her intelligence may have been a “handicap” in her career. When Stern told her he wished he had an IQ of 152, Beckinsale replied, “You don’t.” She then explained that every extremely smart person she’d met wished they weren’t as smart.
“Every single doctor, every single person I’ve ever come across has said, ‘You’d be so much happier if you were 30 percent less smart,’” she revealed. “It’s no good to me, though. It’s really not helpful to me in my career. I just think it might have been a handicap actually,” said Beckinsale.
She also revealed how her very high IQ affects her dating life, saying, “I’ve always found I can forgive an awful lot if somebody’s funny. So there’s a certain degree of intelligence in somebody funny that I’m able to mess with.”
Meanwhile, Beckinsale also appeared on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” on Monday, where she opened up about her recent leg injury in Las Vegas. She revealed that an ambulance had to pick her up at her hotel after she got injured while putting on her leggings.
“I’m alright now,” she told her fans.
