The future king was born in St. Mary's Hospital. The newest addition to the royal family became third in line to the throne. A son has risen on the British Empire. Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, welcomed a healthy baby boy into the royal family Monday at 4:24p.m. local time, Buckingham Palace announced.

The royal baby did not know it yet, but he's trending virally on social media and garnering well wishes from all corners of the Earth. In an official press statement following the news of the birth of his first grandson, Charles, Prince of Wales, shared some touching words of pride:

"Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild," Prince Charles gushed in a statement. "Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."
