Kate Middleton Cries As She Listens To A Moving Tale Of A Mother Who Lost Her Infant Daughter
Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, cried at a recent charity event in Norfolk after hearing the tale of a mother who lost her daughter. The Duchess' eyes welled up when she heard the tragic story on Monday when the pregnant Duchess visited a children's hospital in Norfolk to launch an appeal on behalf of East Anglia Children's Hospices, or EACH, to build a facility there.
The 32-year-old royal was moved to tears after hearing a speech from a woman named Leigh Smith who lost her daughter Beatrice to a heart condition earlier this year. Kate reacted by giving Smith a warm hug after she finished her speech. "Kate sought me out and gave me a hug just before she left," said Smith, according to Daily Mail. The distraught mother further revealed Kate called her a "very brave lady" and said she was "very, very sorry" for her loss.
Smith's daughter was diagnosed with a rare heart condition in January 2014 and spent six weeks in the hospital waiting for a new heart. However, Smith and her husband Toby made the most difficult decision to let their daughter go in February. Their daughter would be celebrating her first birthday on Nov. 27 if she was alive today, but she only lived for 87 days, says the Daily Mail.
Kate, who was suffering from extreme morning sickness some time back, looked fresh as she appeared at the charity event. There was a hint of baby bump visible from the Duchess' bright red Katherine Hooker dress as she arrived at the Norfolk hospital to raise money for the charity. Her usually flowing tresses were tied in a high ponytail, and she looked sophisticated yet graceful. The 18-week pregnant Duchess completed her formal look by wearing towering black heels and holding a black clutch.
Kate has been the part of charity EACH since 2012. The Duchess also met terminally ill children and their parents at the event. "I greatly admire the dedication, generosity and achievements of the charity's supporters and volunteers, and look forward to seeing the progress of this campaign," said Kate.
