Kate Middleton Sick, Doctors Keep Watch On Health Risk During Pregnancy
Following recent news that Kate Middleton is pregnant with her second child with Prince William, fans of the royal couple are reportedly concerned over the health condition of the Duchess. Doctors are said to be keeping a watchful eye over health risks she may encounter during her pregnancy.
A press release from the Prince of Wales' official Web site states Kate Middleton is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. She is reportedly being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace.
The Independent claims Kate Middleton suffers from an extreme form of morning sickness. A highly unusual case, it is characterised by symptoms ranging from severe nausea, vomiting, dehydration, and low blood pressure. Women who suffer from Hyperemesis Gravidarum often times require doctors' treatment. In some extreme cases, intravenous fluids are administered to the patient to prevent the vomiting. The site adds Hyperemesis Gravidarum is usually experienced by pregnant women during their early stages of pregnancy. But Kate Middleton is reportedly among the unlucky few who struggle with the sickness, even at the later stages of her pregnancy.
However, the sickness is believed to be safe for the royal couple's unborn child. But the site claims it will make the Duchess feel miserable all throughout her pregnancy.
According to the Mirror UK, Nicola James, trustee of the charity Pregnancy Sickness Support, said the 33-year old is bound to experience the symptoms again since she already had it when she was pregnant with Prince George.
"It's highly likely that if you have had it before you will have it again and it's generally worse in subsequent pregnancies. It starts earlier and is usually more severe," she said.
Kate Middleton was supposed to accompany Prince William on a tour in Oxford on Monday to formally open "The Dickson Poon University of Oxford China Centre Building." However, due to the sickness, Kate was forced to leave her husband alone to tend to their royal duties. But Prince William kept his hopes up that his wife will soon get better.
Speaking to some well-wishers during the tour, he claimed the Duchess of Cambridge will be able to resume her royal duties in a "few weeks' time."
