Kate Winslet to pen celebrity book for autism
Inspired by a film she narrated for HBO, called “A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back To Autism”, Kate Winslet has agreed to pen the book in hopes to promote awareness and enjoin support for treatment of autism.
Actress Kate Winslet has asked a dozen of celebrities to take self-portrait photos that will be featured in her upcoming book on autism titled, “The Golden Hat”.
Inspired by a film she narrated for HBO, called “A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back To Autism”, Winslet has agreed to pen the book in hopes to promote awareness and enjoin support for treatment of autism.
In the film narrated by Winslet, a young boy Keli Ericsdottir was able to communicate again after long years of suffering from ‘severe non-verbal autism’
The boy now has been composing poems, including the one that describes a magical hat that allows an autistic boy to communicate. This poem inspired the title and the overall theme of the book.
The book said Reuters is expected to describe Winslet’s new-found relationship with Ericsdottir and his family. The boy’s poetry and other writings are also expected to be featured in the book.
Reuters enumerated the actors requested by the actress to take self-portrait photos including Ben Stiller, Jude Law, and Meryl Streep.
Other prominent individuals featured in the book include comedian Ricky Gervais, tennis player Maria Sharapova, singer Christina Aguilera and actresses Naomi Watts and Julianne Moore.
According to Reuters, Winslet asked these actors specific request to take self-portrait photos wearing ‘one special hat’ that was passed along for purpose of the book’s publication.
The ‘Revolutionary Road’ actress had also included in her collection the ‘first words’ to use of these actors and actress when able to speak again after long years of locked in silence.
The book noted Reuters, will also feature individuals diagnosed with autism.
Published by Simon & Schuster, the book by “The Reader” star is expected to be released by the end of the year. Sales from the book said Reuters will go to Winslet's autism charity called, "The Golden Hat Foundation."
