Kathy Griffin Confirms Offer To Replace Joan Rivers In 'Fashion Police'
After comedienne and E! "Fashion Police" host Joan Rivers' untimely death, the show's fate has been in a conundrum. While it was announced that the show will continue, many wondered who would replace Joan. Kathy Griffin now confirms the rumours that she was indeed offered the job. What she did not say, however, is if she will accept it.
"They did offer it to me," the comedian told Access Hollywood. Despite this, the actress, 54, did not specifically say if she would take the offer. What she said, however, is that she really wanted to see the show go on for a much longer time. The comedienne complimented her fellow comedienne and said that Joan really brought something new for the viewers.
"I really hope they continue in the spirit of Joan's work," she said. The comedienne said that the late Joan Rivers combined fearlessness and a unique brand of humor that viewers need. She specifically loved that Joan did not hold anything back on her fashion reviews but did so in an endearing way. She said Joan Rivers understood what comedy was, and it means a place where no one holds back.
Back in September, there were rumors that Griffin was out to take on Joan's job while the legendary comedienne was still lying at the hospital in a coma. Griffin slammed the rumors during an interview with Larry King, saying she would not do that to Joan. Moreover, she shared that as inspired as she was with Joan Rivers, they both have their own brands of comedy. Interestingly, the two also had dinner just two weeks before Rivers went into coma, which she later succumbed to.
The future of "Fashion Police" was undetermined when Joan Rivers died, but with Melissa Rivers' blessing, E! network assured fans that the show will continue. The network felt that Joan Rivers would want the show to go on. For now though, the show is still on a hiatus. It is set to return to review the fashion choices of those who would attend the Golden Globes in January 2015.
