TV sitcom fans are pleasantly surprised that Mrs. Cruise herself, Katie Holmes, will be this year's Slutty Pumpkin.

"How I Met Your Mother" fans would know about Season 1's Slutty Pumpkin, a mysterious girl that every character in the series except Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) has dismissed as someone who would remain buried in their Halloween memories forever.

Earlier this month, creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays teased fans and said the Slutty Pumpkin would finally be unmasked this season, giving hint of a Halloween episode, but they did not announce who would be playing the role until a week before the airing of their special episode.

Yes, Ted Mosby's Slutty Pumpkin, the one he got so drawn to before he finally hooked up with Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), is coming back for a big revelation after six years.

"Katie is a lovely and talented actress, which is why we've saved for her perhaps the most classily named character in our show's history," Thomas told NYmag.com.

Holmes' guesting brings to two the number of "Dawson's Creek" actors to appear in the contemporary TV sitcom. James Van Der Beek has previously appeared as Robin's former love interest in a hilarious episode peppered with Robin's funny flashbacks.

Other reasons to look forward to HIMYM's special Halloween episode are:

(1) The continuing romance between Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) and Nora (Nazanin Boniadi) - how long before Robin breaks down and give Barney her speech?

(2) Robin's volatile relationship with her ex-shrink-now-boyfriend Kevin (Kal Penn) - how long will she keep this guy around when she's still in love with Barney?

(3) Barney's 'duckie' necktie - will he really be wearing it throughout the rest of Season 7?

(4) Clues on Barney's bride - will there be other brief glimpses to Barney's wedding?

(5) Clues on HIMYM's longevity - it's been previously reported that CBS has confirmed a Season 8 for the series, but from the looks of it now, Barney couldn't hold the show much longer than he already has. Ted's got to meet the 'mother' soon.

At this point, it is safe to assume that the Slutty Pumpkin won't be Mrs. Mosby. Katie Holmes couldn't possibly handle more filming schedule for a TV series. Nah, this is a one-off, or a couple of episodes deal at best.
