Katy Perry As 'Best Female Singer'; Silence Observed For Yolanda Victims During MTV EMAs
Katy Perry was judged as the best female singer in the 2013 EMA MTV music awards in Amsterdam on Sunday. Perry's win was accompanied by Thirty Seconds to Mars' Jared Leto who won in the best male singer category.
After collecting their trophies, Leto requested everyone present at the awards function to observe a minute silence for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda.
Typhoon Haiyan (also known as Typhoon Yolanda) has left thousands of Philippine residents dead, and has caused billion dollars worth of damage to the country's economy and infrastructure. The typhoon is currently moving towards Vietnam and measures are being taken to protect people from the after-effects of he natural calamity.
After remembering the Yolanada victims, the much-deserved winner of the award, Perry gave a terrific performance of her song "Uncondtionally".
Miley Cyrus was also awarded for the best video for her song "Wrecking Ball". Cyrus arrived at the red carpet in a figure hugging dress with a caption "Please Stop Violence". According to Hollywoodlife.com, "Miley's so wild that she even managed to make Katy look like a housewife! Which isn't to say the "Roar" singer didn't look fabulous - she did in a '50s-inspired baby blue-green dress and blush pink heels."
One Direction was awarded the Best Pop trophy and Harry Styles was given the trophy of most stylish singer. Eminem, the U.S. rapper was adjudged for the "Global Icon" prize for lifetime achievement.
Ariana Grande also arrived for the event and looked graceful in the pink satin dress. Justin Bieber continued his reign as the best male for the fourth consecutive year, while Bruno Mars and Beyonce collected the awards in the category of Best Live Act and Best Song respectively.
