Pop singer Katy Perry appeared in The Simpsons Christmas Special which aired last night on Fox in the United States. Perry's appearance in Springfield, home of the The Simpsons, stems from her stint in Sesame Street which was cut due to backlash on her costume.
The Simpsons Christmas special features the animated residents of Springfield turn into puppets, with Katy Perry joining them in an attention-grabbing, and equally revealing red spandex costume. Last September, The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean said: "In the wake of Elmo's terrible betrayal, The Simpsons puppets wish to announce they stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry."
Sesame Street announced that it shut down the appearance of pop star Katy Perry after considering feedback from parents who tought that Perry's costume showing the singer's cleavage, as inappropriate for the children show "which was aimed at pre-schoolers." In Sesame Street, Perry appeared in a red shirt with the profile of Elmo. The costume was ripped off for her The Simpsons guesting, showing profiles of different characters.
