Katy Perry parodies her being cut from Sesame Street in SNL
Katy Perry took to Saturday Night Live to parody her being cut from the premiere episode of Sesame Street. In a video clip of her appearance, Perry appeared in a red shirt with the profile of Elmo, with her much-fussed over cleavage freely shown in the kiddie show.
Perry was interviewed on a faux talk show as Maureen DiChico, a library volunteer whose attire is too skimpy for kids attending her reading sessions. SNL's Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler came into defense of DiChico saying that while she needs a better bra, she must just go with her thing.
"You do your thing at the library. The kids come for the boobs, they stay for the books, everybody wins," Poehler said.
Late last week, Sesame Street announced that it shut down the appearance of pop star Katy Perry after considering feedback from parents. Apparently, Perry's costume that shows the singer's cleavage did not sit well with audience of the children show.
The pop star was originally set to appear on the premiere telecast of Sesame Street's 41st season today. Clips of Perry's appearance are available online via YouTube.
Steps had been made for Perry's appearance to suit the audience demographic of Sesame Street. The lyrics of Hot N' Cold was modified to be more child-friendly and to teach children the opposite of hot and cold.
However, Katy Perry's costume had become the fore issue with parents. The objection to Perry's "dress-up clothes" was strong enough to persuade Sesame Street to cut the segment with the singer.
Sesame Street said: "In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video, which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers."
