Katy Perry Is Super Bowl 2015 Halftime Performer, Beating Coldplay And Rihanna Out Of The Running
Katy Perry is set to be the halftime perfomer at the 2015 Super Bowl. This news has been confirmed by the NFL and Pepsi as well as by the "Part of Me" singer herself.
NFL and Pepsi announced that Katy Perry would be the halftime performer at the most awaited 2015 Super Bowl. Katy Perry, on the other hand, made a video confirmation of the news. Perry, who is currently in the Australian leg of her Prismatic World Tour, revealed her excitement via Twitter while enjoying New York Giants/Dallas Cowboys football game. "I've got some insane ideas this year," she said in a video designed to promote her performance at the event. "This halftime show is gonna be crazy."
Before NFL and Pepsi gave their confirmation, there were already speculations a month ago of her being chosen to perform. Getting chosen though for the halftime event is no small feat. Perry bested Coldplay and Rihanna in getting the chance to perform. She also has big shoes to fill. Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed on the last season, and it was groundbreaking, drawing a record number of 111.5 million viewers, as reported by Variety. This made it the most-watched event in TV history, sparking speculations that NFL would start charging entertainers to perform at the event. On that rumor, Perry herself told ESPN how much she disliked the idea and that she is not "the kind of girl that would pay to play the Super Bowl." Entertainment Weekly shared that she, indeed, will not be charged next year.
Still, ABC News claims there were obvious reasons that made Perry the perfect choice. The site lauded Katy Perry's usually out-of-this-world costumes and larger-than-life performances. She's also noteworthy for her love of animals and advocacy to ensure animal rights are not violated. More importantly, the site shares that she loves her fans and her fans love her back. Her more than 60 million Twitter followers could surely cause a stir and make another TV history moment come 2015 during this anticipated event, ABC News says.
Super Bowl 2015 will be held on Feb. 1. It will be staged at the University of Phoenix in Glendale, Arizona and will be aired nationwide.
