Just barely a month after Kelly Rowland and her family welcomed a new baby in their lives, her mother Doris passed away. Doris Rowland Garrison died on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the age of 66, and Kelly Rowland is devastated.
Doris Rowland Garrison passed weeks after welcoming her grandson, Titan Jewell Weatherspoon, in the world. Her daughter, singer Kelly Rowland, is devastated and have released a statement to the Associated Press on Wednesday, Dec. 3, confirming the death of her mother. She said that "she was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman-and now mother-I am today." Kelly requested for love, support and privacy during this trying period of her life.
Doris would have turned 67 in a few days. No cause for the death has yet been determined, but Doris is said to have went into a cardiac arrest in her hometown of Atlanta. Kelly and her older brother were singlehandedly brought up by their mother when their parents split up in 1988. It was in 1992 when Kelly would join a girl group with the name of "Girl's Tyme." The same group included Beyonce Knowles and LaTavia Roberson. Eventually, "Girl's Tyme" became the famous girl group behind hit songs such as "Say My Name," "Survivor" and "Bootylicious": the "Destiny's Child."
Even when the group disbanded, Kelly continued to have her own singing career. She released four solo studio albums, the recent one of which is the "Talk A Good Game," released back in June 2013. Kelly also served as judge and mentor for the "X-Factor" franchise in various countries. Throughout her journey, her mother Doris stayed behind her, showing her unconditional support.
Kelly Rowland gave birth to her first son on Nov. 4 with Tim Witherspoon, whom she secretly wed in May 2014. This was only two months after she confirmed that she was pregnant. The singer could not be happier with the birth of Titan. "We are thrilled to announce that today we are the proud parents of our first son," Kelly said in a statement. "We are blessed to report everyone is healthy and happy," she told People at the time.
