KeSha Banned from Performing in Malaysia Over Religious Fears, Threatened with Imprisonment
A scheduled concert by "Tik Tok" singer Ke$ha in Malaysia has been cancelled by the authorities. The Malaysian authorities cited religious fears as the prime reason.
Organisers at Livescape are saddened at the decision taken by the Malaysian authorities. Livescape was notified a day before the planned show in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian fans were truly excited about the Saturday show of Ke$ha in Kuala Lumpur.
Livescape expressed its feelings via Facebook. The organisers said that they did everything to appeal against the decision. But all their efforts went in vain and leaving them disheartened. They confirmed that Kuala Lumpur show of Ke$ha will be cancelled.
Ke$ha took to Twitter and expressed her frustration at the cancellation of her much-awaited Malaysian concert. "To be clear. I did NOT cancel. I was not allowed to play. And then I was going to play anyways and was threatened with imprisonment."
Ke$ha's Imprisonment Reports
PR head for Livescape - Jason Kong said that Ke$ha contacted the organiser and asked what would be the repercussions if she ignored the ban on her.
Jason told The Star (Malaysian newspaper) that they advised the US pop star to not go against the authority as they will anyway shut down the concert, obtained via BBC.
He also commented on her being imprisoned. "I don't know where the imprisonment [claim] came from. I don't think anyone from the government was in touch with her. I think it was a tweet of frustration," Jason said.
The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia rejected the application for Ke$ha to perform in Kuala Lumpur and cited religious and cultural reasons. Ke$ha is known for her skimpy outfits and outrageous onstage presence but for this show she agreed to change her wardrobe and lyrics of songs that can be termed "offensive."
Other Artists Who were not Allowed to Perform in Malaysia
American metal outfit Lamb of God were banned as the authorities termed the band's music blasphemous.
Local promoters were heavily fined for promoting "sexually suggestive" acts of The Pussycat Dolls in 2006.
The Malaysian fans will have to wait for Ke$ha to come back to their country.
