Kevin Costner joins Orange Dog in saving pups from "doggie death row"
Academy Award winning director Kevin Costner joined forces with Orange Dog founder Jan Folk to save the lives of dog from California, and give them a new lease on life.
Kevin Costner said, "In its most simplistic form, that's what Orange Dog is about - it's about life...it's about second chances."
Orange Dog is the brainchild of Edmonton businesswoman and philanthropist, Jan Folk. As patron of the Edmonton Humane Society, Jan took the initiative to launch this life-saving program in June 2009.
The Orange Dog Web store features a selection of high quality products for dogs and their owners .The Freedom Flight Program is sponsored 100% through product sales. To date, the Orange Dog has sponsored four flights, saving the lives of 313 dogs.
In a study, the Edmonton Humane Society found that people are willing to wait for the California dogs instead of those sold in newspapers. on-line ads, or in pet stores because they suspect that those puppies may have come from from puppy mills or brokers where they often live in horrible conditions; and are often bred without considering the dogs' welfare.
