Kevin Durant cleared for OKC’s training camp
Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant has been cleared to rejoin the team and will be ready in time for the squad’s training camp set in late September.
According to Royce Young of ESPN, Durant is already playing without restrictions and has joined the team’s 5-on-5 drills. The OKC star appears to have recovered from a number of foot surgeries that caused him to miss most of the 2014-2015 season.
"He feels great," Sam Presti, OKC’s general manager, said about Durant. "Looks great. Happy to have him back on the floor."
Presti admitted that there is a possibility that Durant’s minutes will be managed early in the regular season and that it’s something that Billy Donovan, who is the team’s new head coach and Durant will discuss with the Thunder medical staff.
Durant, who is considered one the best players in the league, played just 27 games last season because of the foot injury. The forward managed an average 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists before being ruled out the rest of the season.
The Thunder landed in ninth place in the Western Conference Playoffs race last season but with a healthy Durant, the team is considered top contenders not only in the conference but in the entire league.
The 26-year-old Durant is in the last year of a five-season $89.16 million (AU$ 127.22 million) contract he signed with the Thunder in 2011. He is set to get paid over $20 million (AU$ 28.54 million) for 2015-2016 but will become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
